1939. Charles Laughton as The Hunchback/Quasimodo shows Maureen O'Hara as Esmeralda his home, telling him about himself, how he sees himself, and how the world sees him. Esmeralda compassionately signs for him after he tells her this. Quasimodo shows Esmeralda his view of the world from the cathedral, and introduces his "friends", the bells of Notre Dame, and then rings his favorites, though the noise from them bothers and shocks Esmeralda to fainting.
